Torrevieja -
One of the largest towns along the Costa Blanca coastline, Torrevieja has grown a great deal during the last 20 years or so. It is now a thriving cosmopolitan town with a large population and some fabulous facilities.
Of course this was not always the case - at the turn of the 20th Century Torrevieja consisted of no more than a handful of cottages forming a small fishing village. The town grew initially due to an increase in salt production from the surrounding salt lake and, in later years, due to tourism and property development.
Places to visit in Torrevieja include the promenade and marina (a lovely place to take a stroll), the Aqua Splash Park (only in the summer), the Park of the Nations, the lovely church square (on Calle Ramon Gallud), the Salt Museum, the Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja (salt lakes), and the brand new Habaneras shopping centre.
Torrevieja can be easily reached via the N332 or from the AP-7 motorway.
