Gallinera Valley
Costa Blanca Information
Gallinera Valley -
Located in the Marina Alta region of the province of Alicante is the picturesque and spectacular Gallinera Valley (Vall de Gallinera). Copiously planted with cherry trees, together with olive, almond and orange trees it is a beautiful and peaceful place.
Reached via a winding mountain road from Pego, the Gallinera Valley is dotted with tiny, ancient villages all with a history stretching back to the Arab occupation. The Moors stayed on here long after they were expelled from much of Spain, due mostly to the remoteness of the place.
The Gallinera Valley is a place to visit for its tranquility above all else, but also to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and the varied flora and fauna.
The main village is Planes and is worth seeing for its ruined 12th Century castle and 16th Century Aqueduct.
The Gallinera Valley is located inland from Gandia and Denia on the CV 700 from Pego.
