Callosa de Segura: The Costa Blanca town of Callosa de Segura is nestled at the base of the Sierra de Callosa, some twenty minutes driving distance from the coastline.
The town is shadowed by the surrounding Sierra de Callosa mountains and overlooked by the Hermitage de Sant Roque (Callosa de Segura's patron saint). Even higher up the mountain is the ruined castle of Callosa, built by the Moors in a seemingly inaccessible place for the purpose of defending the town from Christian invaders.
Callosa de Segura was probably settled in prehistoric times, though recorded history goes back to the Arab conquests when it was a stronghold owing much to its position on the mountainside.
Whilst in Callosa de Segura visit the Saint Martin's Church, originally from the 13th century, the Hermitage of St Roque, and the Archaeological Museum.
Callosa de Segura is situated on the CV900 between Crevillente and Orihuela.
