Benijofar is a small village on the Southern Costa Blanca, located just inland from Guardamar del Segura, together with the villages of Rojales, Formentera del Segura and the new town of Ciudad Quesada.
The history of Benijofar goes back to the Moorish occupation and its name is without doubt derived from the Arabic language.
Benijofar is a pleasant village to visit and places of interest are the Church of Saint James, (originally from the 17th Century but largely rebuilt after the devastating 1829 earthquake), the Casa de Cultura, and the nearby village of Rojales with its unusual cave dwellings and its other interesting attractions connected with water and irrigation.
Agriculture is the mainstay of Benijofar's economy and its produce supplies the fruit and vegetable markets throughout the region.
Benijofar is located on the CV 940 approximately 5 km from the fine sandy beaches of Guardamar del Segura.
